The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is a nonprofit organization advocating for individuals who work with or on behalf of children with special needs, birth through age eight, and their families. Founded in 1973, the Division is dedicated to promoting policies and practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of children. Children with special needs include those who have disabilities, developmental delays, are gifted or talented, and are at risk of future developmental problems.

The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) promotes policies and advances evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of young children (0-8) who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities. DEC is an international membership organization for those who work with or on behalf of young children (0-8) with disabilities and other special needs and their families.

DEC is an organization designed for individuals who work with or on behalf of children with special needs, birth through age 8, and their families. Members receive the Journal of Early Intervention and Young Exceptional Children magazine.

DEC’s National conference will be in Chicago in September 27th – 30th, 2022.
